An earlier end time needs a date boundary, not a guess.
Make the next day explicit
22:15 to 06:45 on the next day spans 8 h 30 min. Subtracting a 30-minute unpaid break leaves 8 h. Without Next day, this range is rejected.
Equal times can mean two things
09:00 to 09:00 is zero on the same day. With Next day it is 24 wall-clock hours. Choose the interpretation that matches the shift.
Check the clock change
If a shift crosses daylight saving, wall-clock and elapsed totals can differ. Use dates and a named zone in the hours calculator to resolve the actual timeline.
