How to use this calculator
The batch time calculator converts and validates lists of time values without uploading the file to a conversion service. Paste a list or open a CSV or TXT file, select the appropriate mode and column, and run the calculation. The result retains row context so you can distinguish valid values, blank entries, and errors instead of receiving an unexplained total.
Use this tool when a single-value converter becomes repetitive: recorded durations, decimal hours, timestamps, and local-time data need consistent handling across many rows. Keep the original file, choose the source format explicitly, and inspect errors before exporting. A row that fails validation should be corrected or intentionally excluded, not silently treated as a zero-length entry.
Formula and calculation method
For duration totals: sum the successfully parsed row seconds. Each output row keeps its original position and validation status.
Select the data’s meaning before processing
A number can mean decimal hours, Unix seconds, or Unix milliseconds depending on the selected mode. A colon value can mean hours and minutes or minutes and seconds. Choose the relevant mode, column, and header setting before running the batch. The parser does not infer a safe interpretation from the apparent size of every value.
Reconcile rows as well as totals
The total is only part of the result. Review how many rows succeeded, which were blank, and which failed. Keeping rows in source order lets you return to the original file to investigate an error. Duplicated values remain separate rows because repeated durations can represent legitimate separate tasks; repetition alone is not proof of a duplicate record.
Worked examples
A list with an empty row
Enter 2h, a blank line, and 30m. The valid durations total 2h 30m, or 9,000 seconds. The blank row retains its place in the result instead of disappearing and changing row alignment. This makes it easier to compare the output with a source spreadsheet that has intentional spacing.
Correct a malformed duration
A list containing 1h, bad duration, and 45m has two valid durations totaling 1h 45m, plus an error on the middle row. That partial total does not establish the intended total for all three source records. Correct the middle value, rerun the calculation, and check the status before relying on the final sum.
Repeated values can be real work
Three separate rows containing 30m represent 90 minutes when all three are legitimate sessions. Removing repeated values automatically would reduce the total incorrectly. If you suspect duplicate records, compare their source dates or identifiers outside the duration column before deciding which rows should remain.
Edge cases and practical checks
File and row limits
The tool supports CSV and TXT up to 5 MB, 10,000 rows, and 50 columns. Larger inputs should be divided into manageable batches while keeping a record of the split. Select the correct column in a multi-column file, and confirm whether the first row is a header so a column label is not processed as a time value.
Local timestamps and spreadsheet output
Local-time conversions require a source zone and may need a clock-change policy. Exported text is prepared with spreadsheet safety in mind, but still inspect the destination program’s automatic type conversion. A spreadsheet may reformat timestamps, strip leading zeroes, or interpret text as dates when opening a CSV.
Frequently asked questions
Does my file leave the browser?
The batch processing runs locally in the browser. You choose whether to download an output file. Treat exported records with the same care as the original data, since saving locally or sending the result to another person is separate from the calculator’s processing behavior.
What happens to invalid rows?
They remain visible with validation information. The duration total reflects valid parsed rows, so it can be incomplete when errors remain. Correct the source data and run the batch again rather than assuming the total includes an intended value for each failed row.
Can I upload an Excel workbook?
This tool accepts CSV and TXT rather than native workbook files. Export the relevant sheet or column to CSV first, keeping an original copy. Check delimiters, headers, and the exact stored values, since a spreadsheet’s displayed time format can differ from its exported text.
Are duplicate durations removed?
No. Identical values can represent separate valid records. The output keeps source order and row identity so you can investigate suspected duplicates using the surrounding record context. Removing repeated values solely because they look alike could undercount actual recorded time.
Why did 01:30 produce the wrong duration?
Check the two-field colon interpretation. In hours:minutes mode it is 90 minutes; in minutes:seconds mode it is 90 seconds. Explicit forms such as 1h 30m remove the ambiguity. Use one documented interpretation across a batch unless you normalize the source values first.
Can I share the whole dataset in a link?
Use an exported file for a dataset rather than putting its rows into a URL. Files can exceed practical link limits and may contain private records. A calculator setup or a small individual result is a different sharing task from distributing the complete batch input.
